Posted by YJ on Sep 15, '09 12:59 PM for everyone Found this in a local community ad paper. Baka gusto ninyo mag-apply. Siguraduhin niyo lang na (A) boy kayo at (B) soulmates kayo! LOL.
Social experiment din kayo! Try niyo kaya i-email. Mwahaha.
Posted by YJ on Sep 12, '09 12:57 PM for everyone After reading something about the consumerism surrounding the Disney Princesses, and a short commentary about the fact that the next next Pixar movie will finally feature a female lead who is unfortunately a princess (again), I come across the Fallen Princesses project. The site provides social commentary alongside nice pictures about fairy tale characters in modern day scenarios. Favorite ko si Snow White, ehehe. Posted by YJ on Apr 1, '09 5:35 PM for everyone This is amazing. Juice cartons are made to look/feel like the actual fruit itself. I swear, the Japanese are among the most creative people on this planet. I wonder how such a packaging would look like for durian or guyabano flavors. Masakit siguro hawakan. LOL. There's a lot more creative design stuff on the website if you're into that. Posted by YJ on Apr 1, '09 5:30 PM for everyone I came across this site which is quite the repository of just about anything. Some of the more interesting stuff I came across are: 1. My Little Pony getting a facelift courtesy of popular movie/TV characters. Savvy? (BTW, I loved the Kill Bill Bride version. Very sexy pony. LOL.) 2. Birth control is fine, but really, getting killed by a condom? 3. Unusual toilet signs. Cute yung male/female/alien sign tsaka yung Barbie and Ken. Hehehe. Have a great day! (In the meantime, matutulog muna ako. Puyat for three days kasi finals week.) Posted by YJ on Mar 23, '09 3:51 AM for everyone So I was digesting what remained of my lost K800's memories in the form of photos. I was able to shoot 2,317 photos before the untimely loss (parang tao) of my beloved phone. There are some pictures that I haven't posted yet, so here goes (click to enlarge): Dun muna tayo para sa malisyoso: Ang kakaiba sa UP: Physical Education Proficiency Exam, known as PEPE. May Regular PEPE, may Special PEPE. At ang contribution ng mga Hapon (c/o Rosby): TiTiCo. Kung bastos ka talaga, kahit yung picture bastos. Things I found in Cebu: Nagbubuo-buo si Fergie. Si Rihanna naman nandudurog. Ang mga itlog sa hotel ay "with style". These must be really fashionable eggs then. (Exact thought bubble at sight.) Anu daw? Were? Where? Wear? Ahhh...WHERE pala. Anak ng tokwa. And of course, from a canteen sa condo ni Randy: Ang sabi: HELLO...HELLO...GOOD MORNING! "Class A" will be Troccadero Canteen and with new management. We are pleasure serve you GOOD food. We are now Open 24 hours. For The Morning we serve "silogs with fried rice". For nigth we server tea, coffee, soft drinks, and desert. Come and Have: BREAKFAST LUNCH DINNER Here with better service. Hay naku. Yun na muna. Posted by YJ on Feb 25, '09 1:40 PM for everyone | | I went up to Baguio last weekend to tag along with Juni for the PMA Homecoming. Apart from the short vacation, it was a perfect reason to buy and try out my new 18-105mm lens. I took a lot of photos, both of people and landscapes, to try out the full capability of the lens. So far, I'm having fun and I'm thinking of making it my normal walkaround lens.
Sharing some pics from the weekend. |
Posted by YJ on Feb 13, '09 2:19 PM for everyone So it happened on a Wednesday, on my way back to Antipolo after my class. To make the long story of the slashing short, there was this guy beside me who had a huge gym bag with him, and the end part of his bag was on my messenger bag on my lap. I guess that he did the slashing maneuver either from inside his bag or hidden from plain sight.
Malinis ang pagkagawa. One clean slice outside, which was quite easy to do since my bag was made of canvas. He was also able to slice the inner lining of the bag to access my phone, which was inside a compartment of the bag. He was able to get my wallet and my phone, but I was able to still pay for the fare since I still had a coin purse that he did not bother to get.
So okay na ako, resigned to the fact na nanakawan na ako.
Thursday night, before class, one of my friends told me that my phone kept on ringing but I did not answer daw. He surmised that I was in a meeting or what. So siempre nagulat ako, kasi I was expecting that the SIM would be taken out na. But nooooooo.
Friday: The number was still alive. Minsan sinasagot pero walang nagsasalita. Minsan nirereject. But still it was alive. Part of me was naiinis, the other part was freaking out. Tangina naman, di mo na nga number eh ginagamit pa rin.
Heto na ang pinakawindang na nangyari.
By Saturday...MAY RINGBACK TONE NA SIYA! (Bugoy from PDA's Paano Na Kaya)
So beware. Posted by YJ on Dec 22, '08 2:05 AM for everyone Couldn't resist the geek in me from posting this one. Love the Noble Races!
I think though that McGyver is more awesome than Chuck Norris. Taco Bell is NOT awesome. And the sign for Lightsabers--Ob! Hahaha! (Insert geek drool here.)

What's your favorite? Posted by YJ on Nov 29, '08 2:58 AM for everyone | | I went to Dumaguete to attend my cousin's wedding last 8/8/08. I thought I was just going to be a normal attendee, but it turned out that since my dad could not make it as a principal sponsor, I had to proxy and partner my mom. Creepiest wedding participation for me ever! It was the chance to practice with my camera and see whether I could be a wedding photographer someday. Hahaha!
The next day, my brother and I trooped to Apo Island, some 30-45 mins away by bus from Dumaguete. We were together with my cousin's best man and his friend, who were planning to snorkel. Our goal was to dive, and I say the Apo Island reef is world-class! (Randy can attest to that.)
Had I known ahead of time, I would have taken a short boat ride to Siquijor, some 45 mins away by boat from Dumaguete. Well, that just gives me an incentive to come back. |
Posted by YJ on Nov 29, '08 2:44 AM for everyone Time out lang. Funny read entitled Photography Is For Jerk-Offs.
For those who will tire of the extra click, it reads:
INSTRUCTIONS:
1) Make sure you have a LOT OF FUCKING NATURAL LIGHT. 2) Make sure the natural light SOURCE is behind you 3) Make sure the flash on your camera is OFF. If you need a FLASH, it means you don’t have enough NATURAL LIGHT. (step 1) 4) Look through the viewfinder: Make sure that everything in your shot is symmetrical. If a tiny bit of it isn’t, like a bird or a queer walking down the street, that’s OK because it makes the photo “cool.” Go watch every Stanley Kubrick movie ever made if you don’t understand this. (Study Alex’s fake eyelash as the archetypal stylistic symmetry violator) 5) Take pictures of everyday shit from stupid angles but make sure it’s all SYMMETRICAL and that it isn’t MOVING. 6) Make sure YOU don’t move or have your fat black fingers in front of the lens when you push the button. (priceless tip: push the button down halfway, wait for a clicky sound, and then push it all the way in - this is the BIG photography secret that professionals don’t want you to know.) 7) Take TONS of photos of the same thing and then only use the good ones where the bird or the queer wasn’t blinking. You’re done. You’re a fucking photographer. See how easy that is? That’s because it’s for JERKOFFS. Posted by YJ on Nov 29, '08 1:58 AM for everyone | | The super impromptu trip to Cebu with Cath and Melissa. First flight in, last flight out. Met up with a former MBA classmate (Alvin) who's now Cebu-based.
We took the tourist route and went around Cebu the whole day. The last time I did that there was around 15 years ago. Saw Magellan's Cross, the Basilica de Sto. Nino, and Fort San Pedro. Went back to Mactan for Lapu-Lapu's Monument, Magellan's death place, and Shangri-La, but since we were cheap and did not want to have lunch at the hotel, we went to Busay (up in the mountains) where we discovered La Tegola Cucina Italiana. Best Italian food ever! It came with a nice view of the city, so the ambiance was great. (Plugging: La Tegola...masarap...may outlets within the city but the Busay branch has the best view. Period.) On our way down, we stopped at the Taoist Temple. I had kidney stone (?) readings, and it was fun! We had sinugba and kilaw for dinner (wala na pics kasi normal na yun).
The following day, we took a long drive north to Daanbantayan in order to catch a boat ride to Malapascua Island. We ended up getting a huge 20-seater boat for the four of us, but it was pretty cheap for the size. The original plan was to go diving, but since it was getting pretty late we just decided to have late lunch and hit the beach instead. Definitely going back for the diving.
The last day we just hit the malls and Taboan for some danggit and pusit for pasalubong. The Ayala Center in Cebu just opened their latest annex called Terraces. It's a funny looking signature Ayala Mall. It has a wide central open air space like Alabang Town Center, the same wood slats as Greenbelt, and water features like Trinoma. Kinda like a mongrel of the other Ayala Malls. Took some shots kasi nakakatuwa. It makes you wonder though if Ayala has some new (architectural) tricks up their sleeves because while the signature look is nice, it's getting kinda boring.
Anyway, pasensya na sa captions at di ako creative. |
Posted by YJ on Nov 28, '08 7:04 AM for everyone I went on an impromptu trip to Cebu last weekend with some MBA classmates. (In remembrance of the nationalities of the one-and-a-half starlet whose name I cannot remember) It was half because I was sad, half because airfare is cheap nowadays, and half because I needed to roundup my travelling year and I had not made a trip for November.
Early this year, I promised myself that I would take myself out of Metro Manila every month for some R&R. I didn't realize it at first, but it soon became apparent that it was possible to sneak out for a weekend every month to make it come true. This was a good year for me because I got to visit places within the "kakaibaaaaaaang Pilipinas" (as Regine would have it) that I have not been to before.
So the roundup goes: January - Davao, Cagayan de Oro, Dakak (with the looong road trip in between) February - Bohol March - Baguio April - Pangasinan (Bolinao) May - Cebu June - Batangas (Laiya, San Juan) July - Cavite (Indang) August - Tarlac September - Dumaguete, Apo Island October - Laoag, Pagudpud November - Cebu, Malapascua Island December - Davao (dammit.)
I don't know if I can make this many trips next year, so it was fun while it lasted. Maganda pala talaga ang Pilipinas. Hahaha! Posted by YJ on Nov 19, '08 4:22 PM for everyone "The only way out is up," Elsie whispered to me."A leap of faith."
"Only thing to do is jump over the moon."
Let me be unexpectedly vague this time around.
When you're being chased by a pack of wolves and you suddenly find yourself at the edge of a cliff, do you fight off the wolves or take the chance of jumping across the chasm in the hope of finding somewhere to land?
For me, the best way to get rid of the wolves, it seems, is to leap out of their way, and sincerely hope for the best.
Jumping into the unknown blindly is something I never would have done five years ago, but that is exactly what I am doing right now. Throwing all caution to the wind feels strangely familiar, friendly even, and I feel cuddled by the breeze.
While it takes a certain amount of self-confidence to have the heart to make that leap, it takes a similar amount of gumption to actually flex your knees and take off. Equal parts of belief and courage, I say. It will never work without the other.
I am halfway through that chasm. I already made that jump. Now, I'm looking for something to land on.
The wolves are real, and their attack is imminent.
Just jump. Posted by YJ on Jul 21, '08 12:22 PM for everyone Just wanted to share a funny experience.
At times I am such a cheapskate, such that I refuse to have my car regularly washed. I have it washed every 3 weeks on the average, but for some reason it has been more than a month since the last one. Because it has been raining everyday, and I'm on the road everyday, the car wash becomes a pointless exercise. Until the car got too dirty--I realized that I could not grip the door handle anymore without thinking of contracting dysentery or some god-forsaken deadly disease.
So I had my car washed past 12MN of Monday (para malinis na when I get to work). I drive into the car wash and the car wash boy (CWB) greets me.
CWB: Sir, vacuum po? Me: Oo. CWB: Sir, galing po kayong probinsya? Me: Ha? Di naman. (after a few moments of thinking) Me: Bakit mo nasabi na galing akong probinsya? CWB: Pusakal kasi eh.
And the term is--pusakal.
I promise to have the car washed more regularly from now on. (Also thinking of naming the car Doogie, short for dugyot, which the car unfortunately is most of the time.) Posted by YJ on Jun 2, '08 7:37 AM for everyone Sorta kinda parang medyo may pagka-back lang naman. Lagyan daw ng laman ang Multiply page kasi baka magka-agiw na. School has started again and so it's time to see friends who you may not see for months again (and become second-rate, even third, in the people/friends priority list, di ba Randy?). I had a great time over the weekend hanging out with old buddies. Late Friday night I attended a birthday celebration with ex-officemates, then proceeded to late-night drinks with Diane, Rica, Glenn, and Tatin (who I have not met for ages). Sunday was with the boys at Rizal for tennis. I had fun watching Rosby sweat (and grunt and swear out loud) hitting the tennis balls. We (Rosby, Randy, and I) met up with Prime for dinner afterwards. I'm stuck at Bonifacio High Street right now because Dave suddenly became jet lagged and backed out of dinner. I'm now taking a break from making a paper due tomorrow. I know, tedious na ang constant mention of schoolwork, but it's all that I really do right now--work and school. Besides, as dear Janina San Miguel would say, I still want to make the Toff Ten (ever hoe my god ahahahaha) as its the only real short term goal I can make right now. Some pieces of odd stuff you might have missed (and might want to view in the office while your boss is away): I know this is the stuff of soap operas, but really, I feel for this victim of the old hospital switcheroo. Learn how to clean your closets because this may happen to you. (The Japanese talaga...) Geek alert. If humans were like this, this would give a whole new meaning to "anakan mo ako". This piece on homoeroticism on He-Man made me laugh. Everyday's a slumber party in Shanghai. If this isn't a sign that you aren't meant to be together, then I don't know what is. Yun na muna. Running out of battery life. Enjoy the week!
